Welcome to ChefGirl, RD! I’m Jen, a Registered Dietitian and Certified Dietitian Nutritionist based out of New York City. I am a professionally trained chef in health-supportive culinary arts.
Before completing my chef’s training, I worked for a few years as a Clinical Dietitian in an inpatient hospital setting. During my time in that position, my work was focused on medical nutrition therapy, ensuring patient’s nutritional needs were met for acute and chronic medical conditions. In that setting, I became frustrated to see patients sent out the door often without a comprehensive visit from an RD, and the proper tools to prevent a readmission. Those tools include personalized care and ongoing support, which I felt I was unable to provide effectively in the hospital setting. It was time to make a change…
I thought about all of the tools someone needs to achieve their health goals without any gimmicks, and how I could be a more effective nutrition coach. I found the Natural Gourmet Institute, and became a chef trained in health-supportive cooking with a new focus on integrative and holistic approaches to health. Now, as an RD and chef, I am better able to showcase to my clients that nutritious food can be, and should be, delicious. Maybe you are not all that comfortable in the kitchen, and stick to very basic meals, or maybe you are unsure how to shop for the best quality ingredients, that also fit into your budget. There are a multitude of barriers that can prevent someone from successfully implementing sustainable change.
ChefGirl, RD to the rescue! As your coach, I will teach you how to become more mindful when choosing, preparing, and eating food. I will teach you how to decode labels and shop in the best way to support your health. I will guide you through meal planning and prep cooking to ease the daily stress that can arise around meal times when you’re trying your best to stay on track. And ultimately, I will provide you with ongoing support to create achievable goals for sustainable change that will have lifelong impacts on your health. As a health supportive chef, I am focused on whole, real foods, and good quality ingredients, and the role those foods can play in supporting your health. Most importantly, I am focused on making sure the food tastes great.
